Celebrating 20 years of Kitty Jay, I returned to HMP Dartmoor to play a concert to inmates after having last played there in May 2004 when I was given permission to launch my debut solo album. This live record is from the performance in January 2024 with Benji Kirkpatrick and Alex Hart. Dartmoor Prison sits high on the moor at Princetown, Devon and has been in use for 200 years. The songs on Kitty Jay are inspired by the mysterious and haunting background of Dartmoor and they deal with all kinds of extremes of human behaviour and emotion.  I’d just moved to a new house that was literally right on Dartmoor. I was exploring the local history and experimenting with songs for fiddle and voice and was inspired to write the album.
